Potato Coffee

Sweet potato coffee, to be exact. For those of us who grew up thinking of sweet potatoes as the king of Thanksgiving vegetables, mixing them into coffee is…disorienting, to say the least.

But in Japan, roasted sweet potatoes are one of the most beloved traditional snacks of autumn, and their slightly sweet, roasted goodness rings those seasonal nostalgia bells as loudly as pumpkin spice latte does in the West.

Say hello to the premium sweet potato latte!

Okay, nothing against sweet potatoes—I’ll admit I was always first in line for those marshmallow-topped bad boys every November—but pairing that flavor with coffee? Hmm. Like the banana coffee, coffee beer, and pink peppercorn lattes that have gone before, novelty alone is not enough to tempt this caffeine fiend.

On the other hand, if this Starbucks offering turns out to be more caramel than root vegetable, I might need to give it a try…
