I’ll Have the Eel Sundae with Pepper and a Cherry on Top

Yep, it’s actually eel-flavored ice cream. With a handy packet of sanshō pepper on top for your take-out dining pleasure! At the Cup Ice Store you can buy individual servings of this and many other flavors that at best might be described as…interesting.

  1. You don’t even have to go to a wacky ice cream museum to get chestnut ice cream/gelato if you’re there in the fall – it’s totally mainstream. But in case you’re not there during the season, yes, they definitely had chestnut. Also, the department store food halls each have several cake counters selling versions of Mont Blanc, my favorite pastry: swaths of chestnut puree spaghettied all over a cream-covered candied chestnut heart, on a base of meringue. Hmm, I would like to eat one of those RIGHT NOW.
