The Catzilla Vending Machine

Catzilla

Overcome with a burning need for yet more weird plastic toys (hey, don’t pretend this doesn’t happen to you!) I was poking around in my favorite Akihabara gachagacha emporium when I discovered THIS:

Yes! It's what Japan's favorite irradiated lizard would look like if it were a cat!
Yes! It’s what Japan’s favorite irradiated lizard would look like if it were a cat!
With two tails! (Rather a lucky mutation, since three ears or four eyes or sixteen feet might not be quite as cute...)
With two tails! (Rather a lucky mutation, since three ears or four eyes or a hundred millipede-like feet might not be quite as cute…)
And I only had to spin the wheel six times to get all of them! (OW! OW! PANTS ON FIRE! Okay, so I burned through so many hundred yen coins trying to get them all that I could have done a months' worth of laundry DON'T TELL MY MOM)
And I only had to spin the wheel six times to get all of them. (OW! OW! PANTS ON FIRE! OW! Okay, okay, the truth is, I sunk so many hundred yen coins trying to get them all that I could have done a months’ worth of laundry DON’T TELL MY MOM)

If you’d like to visit the Akihabara area the next time you’re in Tokyo, visit my website, The Tokyo Guide I Wish I’d Had. And although this series may be sold out by the time you’re next in Tokyo, there will be plenty more to take its place! If you’d like to discover the latest, greatest gachagacha yourself, a guide to the best gachapon hunting spots in Tokyo are on the Tokyo travel blog too. Happy hunting!

It’s the year 1784 and the shōgun rules with an iron fist . . . except within the walled pleasure quarter of Yoshiwara. Inside the Great Gate, samurai law does not apply, and it’s women who pull the strings

The Samurai’s Octopus…is a truly remarkable book, one that surprised and charmed me at every turn of the page. You’re in for a treat.”

  1. OK, catzilla is not really my cup of tea, but the paperbacks are beyond cool! Good for you. Does Amazon Japan have them? (I’m too lazy to check myself.)

    1. Aieeee, Amazon Japan doesn’t have them YET, but I am gently prodding my new publisher to make that happen in a much more timely way than my previous publisher did. (><;;) Last time I had to send everyone to Amazon Australia for MONTHS before they figured out how to get the damn things up for sale in Ye Olde Nihon. If they don't manage to get it done by the time I come back to Tokyo in August (heaven forfend), I will pack a copy in my suitcase and force it on you face to face. heh. (And thank you for the kind words of enthusiasm – I shall sip them all morning like the nectar of the gods.)

      1. Oh, that means you got the new publisher. I remember you fretting about that. I told you it would work out!

  2. I’ve always wanted to go to Japan, but honestly, I’d go to Japan just for one of these! Haha. Wish I could get these in America.

    Cheers!

    1. I know, right? The stuff they sell in vending machines here is PRICELESS. And the reason I know is that I’ve spent a Mt. Fuji sized mountain of hundred yen coins on the ones I love (and please don’t tell anybody, but I actually EMPTIED THE CATZILLA MACHINE trying to get all the different kinds, but there’s still one I didn’t get!)
