In Yokohama, new year’s is lit!

If basking in the glow of a giant multifaceted cube that’s illuminated by an ever-changing light show is on your bingo card for the new year, get thee to Yokohama right now, because you’ll never see a more illuminating sight. The Yorunoyo nighttime light-up extravaganza is all along the waterfront in Yokohama through January 4, 2024, and it does not disappoint!

The cube is a colossal metal structure that provides a 3-D canvas for light paintings that range from swirling clouds and smoke…

to the building blocks of life…

And the projection mapping surrounding the cube interacts with the people on the lawn, with shapes chasing and circling wherever you step or stand.

to an abstract wash of rainbow colors…

to a rave in a cube…

to a bubbly, sparkly dream.

And after you’ve basked in the gorgeousness of the cube, there’s more at the nearby pier!

A garden of glowing roses blooms atop the ferry terminal…

And a sea of sparkling waves reaches out toward a lit-up bridge on the other side

The waterfront itself lights up every half hour for a five-minute synchronized light and music show, involving multiple buildings and landmarks

Yokohama’s Yorunoyo event is installed all along the waterfront
