Geek is the New Blonde
I wish I could sell you the phone app that magically removes glasses glare from photos, but alas, the reason this girl’s aren’t lighting up like a full moon under the glaring subway lights is…they have no lenses.
I was walking down the street in Harajuku when I first spotted a girl wearing a pair of fake glasses, but I couldn’t quite believe it was a fashion trend until I saw that every other store on Takeshita-dori has a rack of black hornrims for sale. Go figure.

Read a novel set in Tokyo…

Writing mystery books set in Tokyo is mostly what I do, but I also blog about the odd stuff I see every day in Japan. I'm a graduate of Stanford University and the Sendagaya Japanese Institute in Tokyo, and a member of the International Thriller Writers, the Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters In Crime. When I'm not in Tokyo, I live in San Francisco. I also host a travel site called The Tokyo Guide I Wish I'd Had, so if you're headed to Japan and want to check out the places I take my friends when they're in town, take a look!
So when will you be getting a pair? I see them every day and I just love them. I am slowly collecting a bunch of photos of these to post on my blog but it’s hard to catch them and get a decent shot at the same time.
I feel your pain. This is the first one I could sneak that turned out okay. I look forward to your series!
