But Will They Come When You Call?

Behold the latest pet craze to sweep Tokyo! Now you can have your very own jellyfish aquarium, complete with disco lights! You can pick up everything you need at (where else?) Tokyu Hands, including jars with little brown jelly babies.

I’m naming mine Spot.

Disco tank cycles through all the colors of the rainbow. Suitable also for aqua-unicorns.
Like humans, most jellyfish do not start out life as blondes.

Writing mystery books set in Tokyo is mostly what I do, but I also blog about the odd stuff I see every day in Japan. I'm a graduate of Stanford University and the Sendagaya Japanese Institute in Tokyo, and a member of the International Thriller Writers, the Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters In Crime. When I'm not in Tokyo, I live in San Francisco. I also host a travel site called The Tokyo Guide I Wish I'd Had, so if you're headed to Japan and want to check out the places I take my friends when they're in town, take a look!

  1. That would be cool to have. BUT it would be scary to have to clean the tank with the jellies inside. Still, I’m sure there is a safe way to do it. It would be better than television to watch these guys float around. Zen.

    • Yikes, I hadn’t thought about how you would clean the tank! But you’re right – they’re way better than TV. I stood in Tokyu Hands and watched them for about twenty minutes!

      • Sorry, I was not online much the last few days so I didn’t see this. But that must have been quite relaxing to watch them swim (?) float (?) about.
