Maid X Kimono
Stop throwing a fit because mom is insisting you wear a kimono to your cousin’s wedding instead of your usual Lolitawear, and get yourself on the express train to Marui Annex. This maid café X kimono is the perfect way to obey the letter of the law while still maintaining a modicum of personal style!
If you want to visit Marui store in Shinjuku the next time you’re in Tokyo, a map is on my website, The Tokyo Guide I Wish I’d Had.

Read a novel set in Tokyo…

Writing mystery books set in Tokyo is mostly what I do, but I also blog about the odd stuff I see every day in Japan. I'm a graduate of Stanford University and the Sendagaya Japanese Institute in Tokyo, and a member of the International Thriller Writers, the Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters In Crime. When I'm not in Tokyo, I live in San Francisco. I also host a travel site called The Tokyo Guide I Wish I'd Had, so if you're headed to Japan and want to check out the places I take my friends when they're in town, take a look!
Cool! I didn’t know about this place!
Actually, the comic book boutique is a new addition – Marui One used to be exclusively cult fashion clothing and accessories. It’s not particularly magnificent as comic book stores go, but it does have some choice manga-themed merch in addition to the books!
I love this idea! 🙂
Me too! But actually, the comic book shop where I saw it is on the same floor as the kimono hime shop, and I’ve seriously been thinking about making an appointment to try on kimono and buy an ensemble! I figure it might be cool to wear for the occasional book event, if I can get the accessories right…
