Is That Truffle Cream Sauce, Or Are You Just Happy To See Me?
Why is it that Japanese hot dogs always look so…enthusiastic?
Of course, if I were an ordinary “ballpark dog” and suddenly found myself smothered in Porcini Mushroom Truffle Cream Sauce, I might be forgiven for thinking I was God’s Gift To Sausages. And I admit I’d be more than a little excited if I were a skinny little wiener who woke up surrounded on all sides by The Bacon Of Vegetables. But that doesn’t explain why these ordinary frankfurterlings look so, uh, perky.

Writing mystery books set in Tokyo is mostly what I do, but I also blog about the odd stuff I see every day in Japan. I'm a graduate of Stanford University and the Sendagaya Japanese Institute in Tokyo, and a member of the International Thriller Writers, the Mystery Writers of America, and Sisters In Crime. When I'm not in Tokyo, I live in San Francisco. I also host a travel site called The Tokyo Guide I Wish I'd Had, so if you're headed to Japan and want to check out the places I take my friends when they're in town, take a look!
Ok, the “perkiness” is a little creepy, but I am TOTALLY making hot dogs w/ truffle sauce now. HOLY YUM.
Yeah, I was pretty tempted to try one, but I’d just eaten a whole plate of spaghetti carbonara! The avocado one looked mighty good too.
